District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) is the traditional public school system of the District of Columbia.

Office of Bilingual Education (OBE) is entitled to plan and coordinate efforts towards the education in a child's target language (English) to ensure that while students are learning English, they do not fall behind in content areas like math, science, and social studies. OBE has also been in charge of promoting and developing the Two Ways Dual Language Immersion Programs in D.C.

DC LEARNING STANDARDS


The District of Columbia has adopted new, more challenging learning standards that spell out what students should know and be able to do in each subject, at each grade level and in every school. The new learning standards in reading/English language arts and mathematics are among the best in the nation, and are the cornerstone of the school system’s commitment to provide an excellent education to each student.
